Long clawed squat lobster

Long clawed squat lobster Munida rugosa. These animals are small relatives of lobsters and prawns; the body is only three centimetres long. They are found in small cracks and crevices in the rocky seabed and under boulders and cobbles. They are easily identifiable, as they are bright orange and have long-clawed pincers. Like most of their relatives they are omnivorous, feeding on both plants and animals. This picture was taken at Carrick castle Loch Goil.
