Alternative Names: Durdle Door Cave

durdle door cave1

Type of Dive: Easy shore dive just along the coast path from Lulworth Cove with a small cave. With its massive rock arch, set right on the Jurassic Coast between Swanage and Weymouth, is absolutely stunning. There is a sloping beach also suitable for snorkeling around the arch and caves to explore.

Suggested experience: Suitable for training in the right weather.

Distance from Bournmouth: 24 miles and 50 mins

Parking directions: There is plenty of parking 800m from the shore Google Pay and display.

Lat & Long:  50.621079  -2.276531

Tides: Tide tables

Depth: 15m

Site entry/exit: Its a 800m walk to the shore from the cliftop carpark so a 10L cylinder is recomended, the walk back is a killer.

Underwater directions: The beach steeps away to a sandy bottom with depths no greater than around 15 metres. Along Durdle beach and Manowar cove are reefs and inside of these depths are around 7 metres and sheltered. All around the door there are large boulders with sandy patches and kelp offering a variety of life from Wrasse to crabs. On the Manowar Reef side of the Door there is a cave, large enough to accommodate a pair of divers easily. Inside the cave there is a blow hole where the sun penetrates into the cave.

Site Hazards:

Nearest Public phone: At the caravan park

Accommodation: At the caravan park

Mobile Network service: Mobile phones don't work here

Other comments: Its a treck down to the water and a lot harder on the way back. If there has been any southerly winds or any swell its not worth diving.
