Type of Dive: Gortein Croft is a shore dive with a long gentle slope in Loch Fyne.
Suggested Experience: Open Water with some experience (this site can have a strong current)
Travel directions: Leaving Glasgow on the A82, turn left at Tarbet onto the A83, through Arrochar and over the Rest and Be Thankful. Turn left onto the A815, from this junction it is 8.7 miles to the A886. Then for 4 miles to the turnoff for the B8000, 8.4miles roughly to the sight.
Parking directions: A holiday home (wooden 2 storey chalet) has been built directly opposite this site and a small layby is in front of the house or ample passing places along the road (although this is frowned upon, being a passing place and not for parking)
Lat & Long: 56.058631,-5.277021 Postcode PA27 8BU Google
Tides: Tide tables
Depth: 12m (a reasonable swim to achieve this but it continued to slope gently)
Site entry/exit: With the recent construction of a holiday home they have installed what appears to be a sewage/wastewater pipe down to the water's edge and thus there is a clearing down to the water about 20ft wide. Entry into the water in on gravel with some boulders. Head straight out from the sewage pipe
Underwater directions: Head NW and follow the gentle slope you can head left or right there’s is plenty to see (fish and encrusting life) not a sight if you want depth however worth a dip.
