Widewater

Alternative Names: Widewater lagoon, West beach,

Type of Dive: Widewater is gentle reef dive 80m offshore.

Suggested Experience:  Sport diver.

Travel directions:  From Brighton head west along the coast on the A259 over the river Adur At the first roundabout turn first left onto the Saltings then right onto King's cress till you hit the sea and turn right for 165m and the car park is on the right.

Parking directions:  There is a Pay and display car park close to the shore that can take 40+ cars as in the picture below, As you go into the car park turn left, then drive down to the second set of stairs up to the beach and park just before the yellow and black speed bump.

Tides: Tide tables    Slack water is at 2 hours before Shoreham HW and much better on a neap.

Depth: 8m max

Site entry/exit: The entry / Exit is a simple walk up the stairs to the Cycle path. Cross the Cycle path and walk between the beach huts down the stony beach into the water. If there is a big swell best not to take a camera as you can get knocked about when leaving the water.

Underwater directions: Head straight out 80m from the shore to the reef which runs parallel to the shore and simply explore the reef. Have a look at the video below.

Other comments: There is a public toilet in the car park. There is also a shower outside the toilets so you can wash your kit after the dive.
